Hi Karen, I was reading the news and came across this article about originally there was 10 signs. I thought it was interesting and wondered what you thought about this info?

The study of astrology is inextricably linked to ancient civilizations and the origins of religion (astrotheology). Most are familiar with the 12 signs of the zodiac, the times of the solar year that they represent, and maybe even their characteristics. Of course, just like all occult studies, there is an exoteric and esoteric understanding of these concepts.

The exoteric astrology is geocentric, or earth-centered. When the sun is said to be in the house of a certain sign of the zodiac, this means that the sun occupies the opposite house of the zodiacal wheel and casts its long rays into the house of the worshiped sign. If the sun is said to be (shining) in Taurus, then the sun is really (dwelling) in the opposite sign of Scorpio. Therefore, the esoteric astrology emphasized the worship of the heliocentric model, or the house of the sun's dwelling. [1] 

The Secret Teachings of All Ages 

While the ignorant multitudes worshiped the house of the sun's reflection, which in the case described would be the Bull, the wise revered the house of the sun's actual dwelling, which would be the Scorpion, or the Serpent, the symbol of the concealed spiritual mystery. [2]

So the first point to be noted is the esoteric, heliocentric nature of the astrology practiced by the wise. Next, note the significance of the sign of Scorpio - that of wisdom and "the concealed spiritual mystery." The esoteric sign is not the backbiting Scorpion, but the Serpent. Even more than that is the Eagle, Scorpio's ultimate sign. The sign of occult initiation, Scorpio - from the venomous of the earth to the king of the sky. [3]

It is said by the ancients that there were originally only 10 zodiac signs, not 12 - Libra was added and Virgo and Scorpio were split into 2 separate signs. According to various sources, including Madame Blavatsky, the sign of Libra was inserted and divided the formerly unified sign of Virgo-Scorpio. The Virgin and the Serpent. Genesis, the Garden of Eden, and the "fall" of man.

This division was called Ezekiel's wheel and was completed in the following way: First came the ascending signs (euphermerized into patriarchs), Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and the group concluded with Virgo-Scorpio. Then came the turning-point, Libra. After which, the first half of the sign of Virgo-Scorpio, was duplicated and transferred to lead the lower, or descending group of Microcosm which ran down to Pisces, or Noah (deluge). To make it clearer, the sign Virgo-Scorpio, became simply Virgo, and the duplication, Scorpio, was placed between Libra, the seventh sign (which is Enoch, or the angel Metatron, or Mediator between spirit and matter, or God and man). It now became Scorpio (or Cain), which sign or patriarch led mankind to destruction, according to exoteric theology; but, according to the true doctrine of the wisdom-religion, it indicated the degradation of the whole universe in its course of evolution downward from the subjective to the objective. So the original 10 became 12. Virgo and Scorpio, the Virgin and the Serpent, linked in so many ways. So the second esoteric point is the origin of Virgo and Scorpio and the all the implications inherent in it.

Next, the importance of the sign of Leo. When the sun arrives at the summer solstice (just before St. John's Day), Leo appears to lead the way,

... and to aid by his powerful paw in lifting up the sun up to the summit of the zodiacal arch. This visible connection between the constellation Leo and the return of the sun to his place of power and glory, at the summit of the Royal Arch of heaven, was the principal reason why that constellation was held in such high esteem and reverence by the ancients. ... "The lion was adored in the East and West by the Egyptians and the Mexicans. The chief Druid of Britain was styled a lion." [5]

It is clear how revered the sign of Leo is to the wisdom-religion. Of course, when these points are all considered as a whole, the implications for the coming New Age are rather revealing. This doctrine indicates that we are  currently in the Age of Virgo, not Pisces, and instead of the Age of Aquarius that we have been led to expect - we will enter, esoterically, the Age of Leo as the sun will be dwelling in the house of the Lion. This new age will be signified by the height of solar power - power for those that worship the sun, and all that represents.

Then, indeed, will the secret religions of the world include once more the raising to initiation by the Grip of the Lion's Paw. [6]

Okay Richard and Astro, this is not my area, so I am quite prepared to be ridiculed here, but I remember reading somewhere, years ago, that there were originally 13 signs in the zodiac.

I cannot lay my hands on the book I read it in, nor do I remember the name of the star sign, except that it started with an "O". And was said to have been located somewhere in the October-November part of the calendar.

I know they used a 13 sign system back in the days of Atlantis and the 13th sign was Ophiuchus. I’m not exactly sure when they dropped the 13th sign but it sounds like at the time of when the bible was written they were using 10. So we started with 13, then went to 10, then went to 12.

Yes, that was it! Well done Richard, I would never have found that for weeks. Ophiucus - probably dropped it because it was so hard to pronounce?

I would love to know what Astro thinks as to whether the charts would be more accurate or less if there were 13 houses or 10 or as it is now with 12?

Thanks for finding that info, would not have slept tonight for trying to think of the name of that particular zodiac house.

Karen, has said she feels only 12 signs applies today because our world has changed since the time of Atlantis. I thought we went from 13 to 12 sign until I read the article above. The 10 sign system surprised me.

Hi Richard,

I really do not see how this system would work, and how the year could be broken up into the ten signs, each sign must have equal degrees and structure.

We can only go by the records kept for proof of these matters, many speculate and have suggestions but the fact is that astrology is older than religion.

In ancient times astrology and astronomy were combined and astrologers were recognized as prophets/scientists.

Prediction style astrology was introduced around the same time as Jesus. The Babylonians mastered this system and took it to the civilized world, but it was surpassed by religion and looked upon as witchcraft.

Not saying this is not true as anything is possible but logically don’t see how it would work.

The truth of this article is the ancients never used astrology to predict, modern times have structured astrology as ‘future telling’.

This is what I try and explain about each cycle, it is the energy of the sign that creates the entire planet to be influenced, this is what the ancients utilized as this is fact, and the change outside the earth influences the energy inside.  

Each sign has an element, this is what should firstly be looked at then each sign has a quality – cardinal, mutable and fixed, and the polarities – female/male.

For example at the moment we are in the sign of Pisces - water/mutable/feminine. 

So when you understand the energy combination of this sign, (which I must add the illuminati have a great understanding of) this cycle provides a very unstable energy to produce many things.  Water can influence tears, emotions and addictions, mutable has the ability to change like a carnelian, and therefore illusion is at its greatest during this sign, and the polarity of the female, so this energy usually consists of family, mother, emotions and so on.  

Look at the headlines since the change of Pisces of all the weird things that have happened, over here in Melbourne we have had mysterious murders and bodies found, you guys had that freak storm that killed those children at school. If you understand the cycles of energy, you will understand how the illuminati manage to keep amplifying the negative of each cycle. The headlines create you to ‘feel’ for the victims as each story is sad, it is not a cycle that produces anger or war, Pisces are the leaders of empathy and this is the reason why so many of them get into deep water.

Thanks Astrojewels. So the 10 signs version doesn't seem to fit, but what of the talked about 13th sign that both Richard and myself have read about?

Do thirteen signs fit in at all? Remember 13 is a powerful and magical number, used by the Maya and the Sumerians.

Any thoughts?
